  • Description
  • The Fungia Coral is one of the most beautiful of all the large polyp stony (LPS) corals. Fungia Corals have a host of large polyps that extend out from a central disc shaped body. These polpys can be various colors and lengths. Fungia Coral can also inflate their bodies to get maximum light exposure.

Fungia Coral are considered somewhat aggressive corals that will extend out their tentacles at night and sting nearby coral neighbors. For this reason Fungia Coral need to be given room to grow and not have a chance to interfere with neighboring corals.

Care must be given to not damage Fungia Coral when handling them. Also when placing a Fungia Coral, do not put it on course substrate or live rock. It is best to place them directly on finer sand beds. Fungia Corals require moderate lighting and low to moderate flow rates. If you see that Fungia Coral are not extending and are retracted a lot, try moving them slightly until you see good polyp extension.

Fungia Corals get most of their nutrition through photosynthesis and the water column. If you feel that your Fungia Coral needs more nutrition, you can try adding micro-plankton or baby brine shrimp to your tank in the evening hours.
