  • Description
  • The Leptoseris coral is an interesting and fairly rare SPS (Small Polyp Stony) coral. The Leptoseris ranges in color from green to brown. Leptoseris corals tend to grow in an encrusting manner as well.

Leptoseris coral are not hard to keep, but should not be attempted to be kept by a beginner aquarist. Leptoseris coral require moderate lighting and moderate to high flow rates. Leptoseris are not considered an aggressive species, but can sting some nearby coral with its tentacles if it can reach them. For this reason you shouldn’t stake up other coral right next to a Leptoseris. If your Leptoseris seems like it isn’t doing well, try moving it slightly to see if you get more polyp extension.

Leptoseris get most of their nutrition through photosynthesis, so strong lighting is a must to successfully keeping one. Trace elements like calcium and strontium can be added to your water through dosing or water changes to help your Leptoseris coral thrive.

Supplemental feedings of small meaty objects like baby brine and mysis shrimp as well as micro-plankton will do wonders for your Leptoseris. Leptoseris Coral are best feed when the lighting is lower and their tentacles are out, mostly in the evening hours.
