  • The Blue Angel is a striking and large angelfish. The Blue Angel changes colors as it matures and can be a great addition to your large fish only tank.

    Blue Angelfish start life as juveniles with a yellow body with strong white and blue vertical strips. As the Blue Angel matures into an adult, its body is primarily black with yellow tips on its fins and streamers. Blue Angelfish can grow to 18 inches as a fully grown adult. Since they can grow so large, they need a tank of at least 180 gallons to thrive.

    Blue Angels can be aggressive to other angelfish, so they should be the only angels in all but the largest of tanks. They will be rather peaceful to other fish though. Since Blue Angelfish will nip at some corals and clams, it is best that they are not kept in full blown reef tanks. People have kept Blue Angelfish successfully in reef tanks, but it’s really up to the luck of the draw with the individual fish.

    Blue Angels are omnivores and require a diet rich in both green and meaty foods. Foods such as Spirulina, Nori, marine algae, high quality pellet and flake foods, as well as mysis shrimp will help your Blue Angel grown and thrive.
