  • Description
  • The Blood Spot Anthias is a very colorful and active anthias. Blood Spot Anthias have a mostly orange body with a strong red line behind their eyes and a red spot on their dorsal fins. Male Blood Spot Anthias are a little more colorful and have yellow stripes.

Blood Spot Anthias reach a maximum adult size of around 5 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Blood Spot Anthias are semi-aggressive fish and shouldn't bother too many other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes the Blood Spot Anthias a great addition to most reef tanks. Blood Spot Anthias can be aggressive towards other anthias in smaller tanks though.

Blood Spot Anthias should be kept in small groups which they should school together in. Multiple male Blood Spot Anthias will not work in the same tank due to aggression issues. Blood Spot Anthias should be kept as either all females, or one male with multiple females. With the lack of a male, the dominant female Blood Spot Anthias will turn into a male. Blood Spot Anthias will do best in tanks with lots of live rock for them to hide in when they feel threatened.

Blood Spot Anthias are carnivores and need a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, small pieces of fresh seafood, high quality meaty frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods will keep your Blood Spot Anthias healthy and happy. Blood Spot Anthias will need to be feed a few small meals each day instead of one large meal since they are such active fish.
