  • The Waitei Anthias is a stunning and very colorful smaller anthias species. Waitei Anthias have a mostly orange to red body with yellow highlights. Waitei Anthias also have hues of purple and blue on their fins. Male Waitei Anthias are usually more colorful than females as well.

    Waitei Anthias reach a maximum adult size of around 3 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 40 gallons in size. Waitei Anthias are generally peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes the Waitei Anthias a great addition to most reef tanks.

    Waitei Anthias should not be kept with larger more aggressive fish, since they are bad at defending each other. This includes being kept with other overly aggressive Anthias species as well. Waitei Anthias will do best with lots of live rock for them to hide in if they feel threatened and also a tank with lots of strong and random water flow. Waitei Anthias tend to be found in cooler waters, so lower temperature tanks normally suit them better. Waitei Anthias do best with kept in small groups of all females or one male with multiple females. With the lack of a male, the dominant female will change to a male.

    Waitei Anthias are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Waitei Anthias can be stubborn eaters when first received, using live feeder foods can sometimes get them eating sooner. Over time Waitei Anthias will take foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods. Waitei Anthias are very active fish and do better when fed multiple times per day small meals.
