  • Description
  • The Chalk Bass is a great starter fish for most smaller aquariums. They are a smaller fish, only reaching 3 inches as an adult, and are also extremely hardy. These two attributes makes having a Chalk Bass as one of your first fish a great choice.

The Chalk Bass has a mostly pale purple body with thick vertical stripes running along its body. Since the Chalk Bass only gets 3 inches in its adult form, it can be kept in an aquarium as small as 20 gallons. The Chalk Bass is also a very non-aggressive fish, so it can be kept with similar species with little to no aggression.

The Chalk Bass doesn’t pick or nip as corals or inverts, making it a perfect addition to a reef tank. They are also rather active, so they should provide lots of entertainment in your tank. The Chalk Bass is also one of the smallest of all bass species.

The Chalk Basslet is a carnivore, so it requires a diet rich in meaty foods. Being a smaller fish, foods such as mysis or brine shrimp are a great choice for a Chalk Bass. Chalk Bass are also known to eat flake foods as well.
