The Boxfish is a truly unique and interesting fish that will really be a talking point in just about any tank. The Boxfish can vary widely in appearance from male to female and can be called many names based on their appearance including Whitespotted Boxfish, Blue Boxfish, Black Boxfish and Spotted Boxfish.

The male Boxfish is more colorful with a black body covered in white, blue and yellow dots. The female is a little more plain with a black body covered in white dots. The Boxfish can grow up to 10 inches, but only needs an aquarium of 75 gallons to be happy. The Boxfish is not a very active swimmer, so large aquariums are not required given its large size.

The Boxfish is pretty much considered reef safe, but can nip at tubewoms. The Boxfish is also a risky fish to keep, since when stressed it can release a toxic substance into the tank which can cause a crash and wipeout your livestock.

The Boxfish are hard to keep, mainly since it is hard to get them to eat. Using live food like bloodworms and brine shrimp will help a Boxfish start to eat. After time fresh seafood and dried food can start to be introduced.
