  • Description
  • The Larvatus Butterfly is a spectacular and rare butterflyfish. Larvatus Butterflies have a mostly white body with vertical chevron stripes and an orange head. The back of its and tail are jet black as well.

Larvatus Butterflyfish reach a maximum size of around 5 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Larvatus Butterflies are peaceful fish and should not bother other fish in your tank, even other butterflies. Larvatus Butterflyfish are not a good choice for reef tanks since they live on a diet of live coral. This makes the Larvatus Butterfly a fairly hard fish to keep given its dietary needs.

Larvatus Butterfly make a good choice for fish only tanks if you can get them to eat. They should be kept with other peaceful to semi-aggressive fish.

Being corallivores the Larvatus Butterfly is very hard to get eating anything except coral. Some people have had luck getting the Larvatus Butterfly to eat mysis shrimp and ova. Please only attempt this fish if you have experience of this species or with other corallivores.
