  • The Ornate Butterflyfish is a truly stunning butterfly. Ornate Butterflyfish have a mostly white body with strong yellow to orange diagonal yellow stripes. Ornate Butterflies also have strong black vertical stripes over their face.

    Ornate Butterflyfish reach a maximum adult size of around 8 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons in size. Ornate Butterflies are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish or inverts in your tank. Ornate Butterflyfish do like to eat coral tissue though, making them a bad choice for reef tanks.

    Ornate Butterflyfish will flourish in medium to large fish only tanks with other peaceful to semi-aggressive fish. They will add a huge splash of color to any tank. Ornate Butterflyfish prefer a tank with lots of live rock for them to hide in if they feel threatened and also to pick at between feedings.

    Ornate Butterflyfish are corallivores, for most aquarists, the best approach relies on substituting coral with high-quality frozen preparations like mysis shrimp and plankton. These foods may need supplementation with specialized coral foods or vitamin additives to ensure the fish receive adequate nutrition.
