  • Description
  • The Tomato Clownfish is probably the best clownfish to keep in FOWLR or reef tanks with more aggressive tank mates. The Tomato Clownfish can be very aggressive and territorial and can held their own with larger more aggressive fish.

Tomato Clownfish can grown to an adult size of 5 inches, and need a tank of at least 29 gallons to be happy. The Tomato Clownfish has a very dark reddish-orange body which fades to black. They have one thick white vertical white stripe just behind their eyes as well.

The Tomato Clownfish are considered reef safe, since they will not bother coral or inverts. Tomato Clownfish will be aggressive to smaller fish and other clownfish though, especially in smaller tanks where territories can overlap. Tomato Clownfish are born male, and will turn female when there is not a dominant female Tomato Clownfish in the tank.

The Tomato Clownfish is an omnivore and requires a diet that is rich in meaty and green foods. It is best to offer your Tomato Clownfish mysis shrimp, frozen meaty foods as well as pellet and flake foods as well. Given the proper diet and tank, the Tomato Clownfish can be a long time inhabitant in your aquarium.
