  • The Black and Gold Damselfish is a very active and colorful damsel. Black and Gold Damselfish start life as juveniles that are mostly yellow in color and have two strong black horizontal stripes. As the Black and Gold Damsel ages it becomes brown in the front of its body and yellow in the rear.

    Black and Gold Damselfish reach a maximum adult size of around 5 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 29 gallons in size. Black and Gold Damselfish are peaceful fish when juveniles but as they age they become more aggressive. Black and Gold Damselfish will not bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes them a great fish for reef tanks.

    Since Black and Gold Damsels can become so aggressive as they age, you must plan out your stocking order if adding one to a tank. You could end up with a Black and Gold Damselfish that is not tolerant of any new additions. Black and Gold Damselfish are very hardy fish and are good fish for beginner aquarists.

    Black and Gold Damselfish are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty foods and high quality pellet and flake foods will keep your Black and Gold Damselfish healthy and happy.
