  • Description
  • The Yellow Head Moray Eel is a stunning and colorful full sized moray eel. Yellow Head Moray Eels have a long and slender body that is mostly tan with a yellow head. There are also many darker brown markings along the full length of its body.

Yellow Head Moray Eels reach a maximum adult size of just over 31 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 180 gallons. Yellow Head Moray Eels are aggressive eels and shouldn’t be kept with smaller fish or inverts. For this reason Yellow Head Moray Eels aren’t really considered fully reef safe eels. Yellow Head Moray Eels can inflict an extremely bad if not fatal bite to humans, so you must always work with extreme caution when your hands are in a tank with a Yellow Head Moray Eel.

Yellow Head Moray Eels require a tank that has a soft sandy bottom and plenty of live rock in it. Yellow Head Moray Eels will create a cave in the rock work and will mainly only have their head poking out of the cave. Yellow Head Moray Eels are more active at night time and will often only come out in the dark. Yellow Head Moray Eels are extremely good escape artists and will find even the smallest hole in your tank to escape through, so you must make sure you have covered up any possible escape routes.

Yellow Head Moray Eels are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods. Foods like chunks of fresh seafood like squid, krill, scallops, fish and shrimp are perfect to keep your Yellow Head Moray Eel healthy and happy. Just make sure the chunks are small enough to fit into its mouth and offer it to the eel on feeding tongs.
