  • Description
  • The Zebra Moray Eel is one of the rare moray eel that isn’t extremely dangerous to aquarists. Zebra Moray Eels have more rounded teeth that are meant for crushing crustaceans, not impaling flesh. Zebra Moray Eels have long brown bodies with many strong vertical white lines, hence the name.

Zebra Moray Eels reach a maximum size of around 60 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Zebra Moray Eels can be kept in reef tanks, but they will eat some inverts and can knock over rocks and coral, so please proceed with caution if adding a Zebra Moray Eel to a reef tank.

Zebra Moray Eels really need a tank that has a soft sand bed and lots of live rock. Zebra Moray Eels need to feel comfortable in your tank or they will not eat. Lots of live rock will provide plenty of areas for them to make little caves in. Unlike lots of eels, Zebra Moray Eels will spend a lot of their time out in the open, and not just in their caves with their head poking out.

Zebra Moray Eels are carnivores and need a diet that is very rich in meaty foods. Foods such as chunks of fresh squip, clams, scallops and shrimp will help your Zebra Moray Eel grow and thrive. It is best to use feeding tongs to get your Zebra Moray Eel to accept food.
