  • The Fan Bellied Filefish is a large and colorful filefish. Fan Bellied Filefish have a mostly yellowish tan body with small white protrusions coming off of its body.

    Fan Bellied Filefish reach a maximum adult size of around 15 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 240 gallons. Fan Bellied Filefish are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother most other fish or corals. Fan Bellied Filefish will eat some inverts, so you must proceed with caution if adding a Fan Bellied Filefish to your reef tank.

    Fan Bellied Filefish will do the best with kept in tanks that have a lot of live rock, macro algae and marine plants in them. Fan Bellied Filefish like to hide in the plants and will also like eating the macro algae and picking small inverts off of the live rock. Fan Bellied Filefish are peaceful fish, so they should really only be kept with other peaceful to semi-aggressive fish.

    Fan Bellied Filefish are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods will keep your juvenile healthy and happy. As your Fan Bellied Filefish ages, it needs to be fed more substantial foods like chunks of fresh seafood.
