  • Description
  • The Tiger Filefish is a very rare and not often seen filefish in home aquariums. Tiger Filefish have a mostly tan body with strong silvery white markings that look like a tiger's, hence the name.

Tiger Filefish reach a maximum adult size of around 4 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 40 gallons in size. Tiger Files are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. Some Tiger Filefish have been known to eat very small inverts and nip at some soft and hard corals, meaning that if you want to add one to a reef tank, you must proceed with caution.

Tiger Filefish shouldn't be kept with overly large aggressive fish since they do not defend themselves very well. Tiger Filefish will also like having lots of live rock and even some marine plants in their tanks. They will spend most of their time going through the rock and plants looking for small inverts to eat between feedings.

Tiger Filefish are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. The best foods to feed your Tiger Filefish are small pieces of fresh seafood like shrimp, scallops, clams and krill. Mysis and brine shrimp can also be fed to your Tiger Filefish. Some Tiger Filefish have accepted high quality flake and frozen foods as well.
