  • Description
  • The Freckled Hawkfish is a beautiful and colorful hawkfish. Freckled Hawkfish start life as mostly light colored fish and as they age they become much darker. Freckled Hawkfish also have reddish brown spots on their faces resembling freckles, hence their name.

    Freckled Hawkfish reach a maximum adult size of around 9 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 75 gallons. Freckled Hawkfish are aggressive fish but will not disturb corals. Freckled Hawkfish will go after smaller fish and some inverts, so for this reason, if you'd like to add a Freckled Hawkfish to your reef tank, only proceed with caution.

    Freckled Hawkfish might be aggressive towards new additions and smaller fish, so please keep that in mind while stocking your tank. Freckled Hawkfish will do best in tanks that have lots of live rock and substrate for them to go through and look for small inverts to eat between feedings. Freckled Hawkfish will often perch themselves on their pectoral fins, which is very interesting behavior to watch.

    Freckled Hawkfish are carnivores and need to be fed a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods, small pieces of fresh seafood and high quality pellet and flake foods will keep your Freckled Hawkfish healthy and happy.
