  • The Chinstrap Jawfish is a very newly discovered jawfish. It has a mostly tan body with white splotches along the length of its body. Chinstrap Jawfish also have a black strong vertical strip from their eye down to under their mouth, hence the name.

    Chinstrap Jawfish reach a fully grown size of around 3 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 29 gallons in size. Chinstrap Jawfish are normally peaceful fish and should be able to successfully be kept in reef tanks. Chinstrap Jawfish might get aggressive to other jawfish in the aquarium if there is not enough space for them to have their own space.

    Chinstrap Jawfish are great jumpers and will jump out of your aquarium if they get spooked. For this reason it is very important to make sure that you have a tight fitting lid on your tank with no holes large enough for them to jump through. Chinstrap Jawfish also require lots of larger pieces of rubble around the tank to move around and make their home out of.

    Chinstrap Jawfish are carnivores and need a diet that is very rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, along with live feeder shrimp and small pieces of high quality seafood will help your Chinstrap Jawfish grow and thrive.
