  • Description
  • The Tiger Jawfish is a rarely seen and stunning jawfish. Tiger Jawfish have a long and slender white body with strong yellow vertical stripes resembling a tiger's stripes, hence their name.

Tiger Jawfish reach a maximum adult size of around 4 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 29 gallons in size. Tiger Jawfish are strong jumpers and nervous fish, this means that if they get spooked they will try to jump out of the tank. For this reason Tiger Jawfish should only be kept in tanks with a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through. Tiger Jawfish are peaceful fish and should get along fine with other fish, coral and inverts. This makes them a great fish for reef tanks.

Tiger Jawfish should not be kept with larger overly aggressive fish, since they cannot defend themselves well. Tiger Jawfish need to be kept in tanks with lots of live rock for them to hide in if they feel threatened and also sand for them to burrow themselves in. The Tiger Jawfish will also pick at the rock and sand for small inverts to eat between feedings.

Tiger Jawfish are carnivores and need to be fed a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood will keep your Tiger Jawfish healthy and happy.
