  • Description
  • The Radiata Lionfish is one of the most stunning of all the lionfish. Radiata Lionfish are mostly deep to bright red in color and have strong vertical white stripes. Radiata Lionfish also have amazingly elegant and long fins and quills.

Radiata Lionfish reach a maximum adult size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in a tank of at least 55 gallons. Radiata Lionfish can be kept in smaller tank since they are not very active swimmers. Radiata Lionfish are semi-aggressive fish and will try to eat just about anything that they can fit into their mouths. This makes them a gamble to add to reef tanks, since they might eat smaller tank mates.

Radiata Lionfish are extremely beautiful fish, but their quills and fins are extremely venomous. Not only can they injure other fish, but they can also inflict a very painful sting to humans. You must be very aware of where the Radiata Lionfish is in your tank any time your hands are in the water.

Radiata Lionfish are carnivores and require a diet that is very rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis and brine shrimp and small chunks of fresh seafood like fish, clams, squid, shrimp and scallops will keep your Radiata Lionfish happy and healthy. Sometimes it can be hard to get a Radiata Lionfish to eat in captivity, so using live feeder shrimp and fish might be required.
