  • Description
  • The Pinecone Fish is a truly amazing and stunning fish to behold. Pinecone Fish have a mostly yellow body with strong black crisscross patterns over its entire body. These markings resemble those of a pineapple or pinecone, hence its name. Pinecone Fish also have bioluminescent bacteria around their mouths that glow.

Pinecone Fish reach a maximum adult size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 75 gallons in size. Pinecone Fish are peaceful fish and will not bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. Larger Pinecone Fish might attack smaller fish and pick at inverts, so please only add a Pinecone Fish to your reef tank with caution.

Since Pinecone Fish are very peaceful fish, they should not be kept with overly aggressive larger fish. Pinecone Fish also do not like the strong lighting found in our tanks, so please make sure that there are plenty of rock caves for a Pinecone Fish to take shelter in.

Pinecone Fish are very picky eaters and also very prone to disease, for this reason on expert aquarists or those who have had experience with this species before should attempt to keep a Pinecone Fish. Pinecone Fish might need to be fed live feeder shrimp first when introduced to your tank. Over time meaty foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small chunks of fresh seafood can be offered to your Pinecone Fish.
