  • Description
  • The Quoyi Parrotfish (Scarus quoyi), also known as the Green Blotched Parrotfish, is a vibrant and intriguing fish found in the Indo-Pacific region. This herbivorous fish is known for its striking coloration, which typically features a blue-green body with pink highlights and a prominent green blotch on its side. Its unique beak-like mouth, formed by fused teeth, is used to scrape algae off rocks and coral. As it grazes, it also helps to control algae growth in its habitat, making it an important part of the reef ecosystem.

Quoyi Parrotfish are social creatures, often found in large schools, and exhibit interesting behaviors such as changing colors and patterns throughout their life cycle. As juveniles, they have a drab brown coloration, which gradually transforms into their vibrant adult colors. At night, they secrete a mucus cocoon around their bodies, believed to mask their scent from predators. In the aquarium, the Quoyi Parrotfish requires a large tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. A varied diet of algae-based foods is essential to maintain its health and vibrant coloration. With proper care and a spacious environment, this fascinating fish can thrive and provide a glimpse into the diverse and colorful world of coral reefs.
