  • Description
  • The Banded Pipefish is a stunning and very elegant pipefish. Banded Pipefish have a mostly red body with strong white vertical stripes going along its entire elongated body.

Banded Pipefish grow to a maximum size of around 7 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 40 gallons. Banded Pipefish are very peaceful fish and need to be kept with equally peaceful fish. Good tank mates for the Banded Pipefish are other pipefish and seahorses.

Banded Pipefish are not aggressive eaters and cannot defend themselves from more aggressive fish. Banded Pipefish can also be harmed by anemones and some inverts, making them a decent choice for reef tanks, but not idea candidates.

Banded Pipefish are considered extremely hard to keep fish, since they require a diet rich in live foods. Banded Pipefish need to eat a diet made up mostly of live copepods. Other live fish like baby feeder shrimp can also be used in a pinch. Banded Pipefish might adapt to eating prepared foods like mysis shrimp, baby brine shrimp and some frozen foods, but don’t expect one to.
