  • Description
  • The Least Puffer is a very small and rarely seen pufferfish. Least Puffers have a mostly light tan body with big yellow and black eyes.

Least Puffers reach a maximum adult size of around 6 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Least Puffers are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother too many other fish in your tank. Least Puffers might bother some smaller inverts, so if you plan on adding one to a reef tank please proceed with caution.

Least Puffers will do best when kept in a tank that has a decent amount of live rock as well as a good depth of sand. Least Puffers are known to burrow in the sand bed and might feel stressed with no sand to burrow in. Least Puffers will inflate their body when they feel threatened to seem larger than they are. Since this is stressful to the fish, it is advised that you only transfer Least Puffers with a container, never use a net to catch them. Also do not get a Least Puffer to inflate for amusement since it's so stressful on them.

Least Puffers are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in bother meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, as well as high quality frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood should keep your Least Puffer healthy and happy.
