  • Description
  • The Porcupine Puffer is an extremely unique and very interesting puffer. Porcupine Puffers are best known for the spikes on their body and the ability from them to enlarge their body up to two times its regular size.

Porcupine Puffers can grow to a size as large as 20 inches and need to be housed in a tank that is at least 180 gallons in size. Porcupine Puffers are considered semi-aggressive and will attack smaller fish and eat inverts such as crab and shrimp.

Porcupine Puffers are generally considered not reef safe, since they will eat smaller fish and many of the inverts that are essential to keeping a healthy reef tank. Porcupine Puffers do best in larger fish only tanks that house other larger semi-aggressive fish.

Porcupine Puffers are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods such as crab, shrimp and clam. Porcupine Puffers will sometimes also snack on some herbivore foods as well, but those should only be added to a diet rich if meaty foods.

The Porcupine Puffer has a great personality and will make an amazing addition to your larger fish only tank if given the right diet and tank mates to thrive off of.
