  • Description
  • The Saddle Puffer is a very attractive and colorful smaller pufferfish. Saddle Puffers have a mostly white body with strong brown saddles over their backs. Saddle Puffers also have strong orange spots on their bodies.

    Saddle Puffers reach a maximum adult size of around 5 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons. Saddle Puffers are semi-aggressive fish, but shouldn't bother too many fish or corals in your tank. Saddle Pufferfish can eat some smaller inverts though, so if you'd like to add a Saddle Puffer to your reef tank please proceed with caution.

    Saddle Puffers should never be caught using a net since they will instantly inflate. Inflating is very stressful on a Saddle Pufferfish and should never be done for amusement. Saddle Puffers can inflate their bodies to over twice their normal size to scare off larger predators.

    Saddle Pufferfish are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen foods, high quality flake and pellet foods as well as small pieces of fresh seafood will keep your Saddle Puffer healthy and happy. Feeding your Saddle Puffer foods with a tough shell will also keep their beak like teeth ground down.
