  • The Ornate Wobbegong is a stunning and super rare shark. Ornate Wobbegongs have a mostly flat elongated body that is tan in color with lots of dark brown and black patches and markings covering its entire body. Ornate Wobbegongs also have lots of irregular growths coming off of their mouths. All of this makes the Ornate Wobbegong a true master of disguise.

    Ornate Wobbegong Sharks reach a maximum adult size of around 42 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 750 gallons in size. Ornate Wobbegongs are aggressive fish and will eat smaller fish and inverts it can find. For this reason and also their size, Ornate Wobbegongs are not good fish to add to reef tanks.

    Ornate Wobbegongs need to be kept in tanks with lots of open swimming room and also a soft substrate. Any kind of coarse substrate will scratch the belly of the Ornate Wobbegong and may lead to infections. A sand bed is very important to Ornate Wobbegongs since they will spend most of their life on your aquariums floor. Ornate Wobbegongs are extremely hard to care for species and should only be attempted by expert aquarists, or those who have had experience with the species before.

    Ornate Wobbegongs are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Live foods might be required to get your Ornate Wobbegong eating in your tank when first introduced. Over time, you can try to offer prepared fresh seafood.
