  • Description
  • Convict Tangs are truly stunning white surgeonfish found throughout the World’s oceans. Convict Tangs have a mostly silvery-white body with thin brownish-black vertical stripes evenly spaced. This coloration gives them their prison inspired name. Convict Tangs also have hints of yellow along their fins.

Convict Tangs grow up to about 6 inches as mature adults and need to be housed in tanks that are at least 90 gallons. Convict Tangs are strong swimmers and do better in longer tanks with lots of swimming room. Convict Tangs are peaceful fish and will leave most other fish alone. Convict Tangs can be aggressive to other tangs though. To help reduce tang aggression, try to add all the tangs you want to keep in your tank at the same time. Also having a larger tank will reduce the chance of aggression due to territorial disputes. Convict Tangs are reef safe fish and will not bother inverts or coral found in reed tanks.

Convict Tangs are very susceptible to diseases, especially marine ich, so it is crucial that your quarantine them before adding them into your display tank. Adding supplements to your Convict Tangs food like selcon and garlic will also help keep their immune system up and keep them healthy.

Convict Tangs are herbivores and require a diet rich in green foods. Foods such as nori, algae sheets, high quality pellet and flake foods, spirulina and mysis shrimp will help your Convict Tang grow and thrive in your tank.
