  • Description
  • The Desjardini Sailfin Tang is a large and beautiful tang. Desjardini Sailfin Tangs closely resemble their cousins the Sailfin Tang, except they are a lot more colorful. Desjardini Sailfin Tangs have a mostly white body with strong black vertical stripes and many yellowish-orange spots. Juvenile Desjardini Sailfin Tangs tend to be more yellow in coloration.

Desjardini Sailfin Tangs reach a maximum adult size of around 16 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 180 gallons. Desjardini Sailfin Tangs are very tall fish as well, especially when they extend out their fins. Desjardini Sailfin Tangs are mostly peaceful fish and will not bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. Desjardini Sailfin Tangs will be aggressive to other tangs though, especially other Zebrasoma tangs.

To try to reduce aggression between tangs, it's a good idea to introduce them at the same time to your tank. It is also important to try to keep multiple tangs in as large of a tank as possible. Desjardini Sailfin Tangs are strong and active swimmers and require plenty of open swimming space. Having lots of live rock with algae on them is also great for tangs and helps reduce their aggression by having lots of available food so there isn't much competition for food.

Desjardini Sailfin Tangs are herbivores and require a diet very rich in green foods. Foods like nori, marine algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods and mysis and brine shrimp will ensure that your Desjardini Sailfin Tang stays healthy and thrives in your tank.
