  • Description
  • The Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang is a stunning and colorful variant of the well known Blue Tang. The Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang has a mostly blue body with strong black markings and pale yellow belly. As the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang matures, the yellow belly becomes a stronger yellow. When they are juveniles it is sometimes hard to tell them apart from their all blue cousins.

Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs can reach a maximum size of around 12 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs are very active and strong swimmers, so they require longer tanks with lots of swimming room.

Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs are peaceful to other non-tang fish, and will do well in reef tanks with inverts and coral. Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs can be very aggressive to other tangs though. Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs are extremely aggressive eaters and this will sometimes cause them to be aggressive to other tangs over food. In our personal tank the Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang is the most aggressive of our tangs and runs the tank, even over a much larger Black Tang. Adding all your tangs at the same time, or having a large tank will help keep aggression between tangs down.

Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs are herbivores and require a diet rich in green foods. Foods such as nori, algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods, and mysis shrimp will help keep your Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tang happy and healthy. Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs are very susceptible to diseases like marine ich, so adding supplements like selcon and garlic to their food will help keep their immune system up. It is also a must to quarantine Yellow Belly Regal Blue Tangs before adding them to your system.
