  • Description
  • The Blue Throat Triggerfish is one of the most striking of all the triggers. Blue Throat Triggerfish have a long and slender body that is mostly a grayish blue with various white dots. Blue Throat Triggers also have yellow along their fins. Male Blue Throat Triggers are more blue in color and show more yellow in their fins.

Blue Throat Triggers can reach a maximum adult size of around 9 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Blue Throat Triggers are semi-aggressive and should only bother smaller fish and some inverts. For this reason they can be added to reef tanks, but you need to know ahead of time that smaller fish and inverts could be in risk.

Blue Throat Triggerfish can get fairly large and could move your rock work. Also they need lots of live rock to hide in and make caves if they feel threatened. Their “trigger” fin can actually be used to lodge the Blue Throat Trigger into a rock and not allow it to be pulled out.

Blue Throat Triggers are carnivores and require a diet that is very rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis shrimp and chunks of high quality seafood like squid, clams, shrimp, fish and scallops will keep your Blue Throat Triggerfish happy and thriving.
