  • Description
  • The Brunneus Fairy Wrasse(Cirrhilabrus brunneus) is one of the most subtly striking wrasses in the hobby. This fish is not an extremely rare fish, but it certainly is not a fish you will see in local fish stores. C. brunneus does extremely well in aquaria, just like many of its cousins.

The Brunneus Fairy Wrasse has a dark purple, almost black body, with a brilliant yellow on its underbelly. This fish also has green fins, with black tips, and this beautiful array of colors makes it extremely visually pleasing.

    C. brunneus has a maximum size of just around 2.5”. However, fairy wrasses in general are extremely active fish, which means this fish will thrive in tanks that are 50 gallons or larger, and will do better with more passive tank mates. Use caution when combining two fish from the Cirrhilabrus genus, and using an acclimation box when introducing a new fairy wrasse will greatly increase the chance of minimal aggression.

The Brunneus Fairy Wrasse is a carnivore, so a meaty frozen food will increase the chance of this fish thriving in captivity. We recommend feeding frozen mysis or brine shrimp, as well as a high quality pellet food.
