  • Description
  • The Paddlefin Wrasse is a very active and super colorful wrasse. Paddlefin Wrasses start life as nearly all black juveniles, as they age they get very colorful. Paddlefin Wrasses have a greenish blue head separated from their red bodies with a strong yellow vertical stripe.

Paddlefin Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 6 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 75 gallons in size. Paddlefin Wrasses are aggressive fish and will go after smaller fish and most inverts. For this reason, it's not the best choice to add Paddlefin Wrasses to reef tanks. Paddlefin Wrasses are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks with a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked.

Paddlefin Wrasses do best with kept in tanks with lots of live rock and sand in them. Paddlefin Wrasses will pick at the rock all day long for small inverts to eat between meals. Paddlefin Wrasses will also need sand to burrow in at night, without this they will feel stressed and more than likely fall ill.

Paddlefin Wrasses are aggressive eaters and carnivores, so they need a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp as well as high quality meaty frozen foods are perfect for juvenile Paddlefin Wrasses. As the Paddlefin Wrasse gets larger, it will require chunks of fresh seafood to stay satisfied.
