  • Description
  • The Red Cigar Wrasse is a very colorful and attractive larger wrasse. Red Cigar Wrasses have a mostly white body with strong and vibrant red horizontal stripes running the length of their body. Red Cigar Wrasses also have a yellow tail and fins.

Red Cigar Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 10 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 180 gallons in size. Red Cigar Wrasses are strong jumpers and should only be kept in tanks with tight fitting lids with no holes large enough for them to jump through. Red Cigar Wrasses are semi-aggressive fish and shouldn't bother your corals. Red Cigar Wrasses will go after smaller fish and some inverts though, so only add one to your reef tank under caution.

Red Cigar Wrasses should be added near the end of your stocking list to reduce the chances of aggression to new additions. Red Cigar Wrasses can be kept in pairs or small groups, but only one male can be present in the tank. Red Cigar Wrasses will spend most of their day going through the rock work looking for inverts to eat. Also a sand bed is needed for the Red Cigar Wrasse to sleep in at night.

Red Cigar Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and chunks of high quality seafood will keep your Red Cigar Wrasse healthy and happy.
