Description
The Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse is any extremely colorful and active wrasse from the Maldives. Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses have a mostly red body which fades to yellow towards their tales. Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses also have blue hued fins. Male Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses tend to be more colorful than females as well.

Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 4 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons. Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks with tight fitting lids with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked. Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses are peaceful fish and should get along with other fish, coral and inverts in your tank. This makes them a great fish to add to reef tanks.

Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses do well in pairs and small groups. Male Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses will be aggressive towards other males, so you need to keep all females or one male with multiple females. With the lack of a male in your tank, the dominant female Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse will turn into a male. Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses should be kept in tanks with lots of live rock for them to sleep in and also pick at small inverts off of between feedings.

Red Velvet Fairy Wrasses are carnivores and need a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality flake and pellet foods as well as high quality meaty foods will keep your Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse healthy and happy.
