  • Description
  • The Rock Wrasse is a stunning and large wrasse found in the waters off of Mexico. Rock Wrasses have a mostly blue head, with a wide vertical yellow stripe behind their head. The back of their body is covered in pinkish red.

Rock Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 6 inches and need to be kept in aquariums that are at least 75 gallons in size. Rock Wrasses are strong jumpers and have to be kept in tanks with a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through. Rock Wrasses are semi-aggressive fish and just get more aggressive with age. Multiple juvenile Rock Wrasses can be kept together, but as they age they will become aggressive towards each other. Rock Wrasses will also be aggressive to smaller fish and inverts, so they are a tossup with whether to put them in a reef tank or not.

Rock Wrasses do best in tanks with lots of live rock for them to hide in if they feel threatened. The rock will also house lots of tiny inverts for the Rock Wrasse to eat between feedings.

Rock Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small chunks of fresh seafood will keep your Rock Wrasse healthy and thriving.
