  • Description
  • Emerald Crabs are great additions to most home aquariums. These little crabs are amazing scavengers and take care of some forms of nuisance algae.

Emerald Crabs have a fully green body with slightly hairy legs. Emerald Crab really only grow up to 2 inches and can be kept in tanks as small as 10 gallons. For the most part you will only see Emerald Crabs venture out into the tank when it’s dark when they will scavenge around for left over meaty foods and algae.

For the most part Emerald Crabs are peaceful creatures if they have enough food. If there isn’t enough food for them in the tank, Emerald Crabs can turn to trying to eat coral, other inverts and smaller fish. Most times this isn’t a concern since most tanks offer enough food for Emerald Crabs to stay happy. Emerald Crabs are also an excellent eater of nuisance bubble algae.

Emerald Crabs are omnivores and need a diet both rich in meaty and green foods. Most times scavenging leftover food is more than enough, but if food needs to supplemented you can use mysis shrimp, small chunks of marine fish and inverts as well as high quality pellet foods.
