  • Description
  • The Halloween Hermit Crab is one of the most attractive and colorful crabs you can add to your tank. The Halloween Hermit Crab gets its name from the bright orange coloration of its legs and eyes.

For the most part Halloween Hermit Crabs can be kept in just about any size aquarium from 10 gallons on up. They can get pretty large in time, but for the most part the Halloween Hermit Crab stays a manageable size.

Halloween Hermit Crabs are great members of a tank’s clean up crew, since they will constantly scavenge for leftover food. Halloween Hermit Crabs also eat many types of nuisance algae including both cyanobacteria and green hair algae. Being omnivores, Halloween Hermit Crabs eat pretty much anything they can find in the tank. If there is not enough food present in the tank, you can always add some marine algae sheets to the tank for them to eat.

Halloween Hermit Crabs are considered reef safe, since they should not bother corals or most fish and inverts. Halloween Hermit Crabs will seek out larger shells when they start to outgrow theirs, which could cause them to kill larger snails for their shells. Also when Halloween Hermit Crabs get larger, they could knock over some rocks and corals.
