  • Description
  • The Blue Spiny Lobster is a stunning and very colorful lobster. Blue Spiny Lobsters get their names from the bright blue coloration on their legs and tail. They also have very long white antennae.

Blue Spiny Lobsters can get rather large, with some adults measuring over 16 inches long. For this reason they should on be kept in tanks that are larger than 90 gallons. Blue Spiny Lobsters are rather peaceful in larger tanks, but can eat some smaller inverts and animals that spend their time on the substrate.

For the most part Blue Spiny Lobsters are only active at night time or when the lights are at a lower setting during the day. Blue Spiny Lobsters can be kept in reef tanks, but as they get larger than can knock over some rock work and corals. A tank with lots of live rock is best for the Blue Spiny Lobster, since they will have ample hiding spots.

Blue Spiny Lobsters are carnivores and need a diet rich in meaty foods. Most of the time the Blue Spiny Lobster will scavenge for left over foods, but if there isn’t enough food in the tank, their diet can be supplemented with foods such as high quality pieces of fresh seafood.
