  • Description
  • The Derasa Clam is a stunning and large clam. Derasa Clams have stunning mantles that come in a huge host of colors. Derasa Clams are often priced on the patterns and colors of their mantles.

Derasa Clams reach a maximum adult size of around 24 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Derasa Clams are peaceful inverts and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in the tank. This makes the Derasa Clam a great addition to reef tanks. Derasa Clams require intense lighting to prosper, but should also be acclimated to the lights over a period of a week or two.

Typically Derasa Clams should be placed on the substrate of your tank, where it will burrow slightly and anchor itself. If your Derasa Clam anchors itself to a piece of rock, never pull it off. This will injure and in most cases kill the clam. Derasa Clams should never be kept with fish that like to eat fleshy inverts like triggers, butterflies and angels. Derasa Clams will thrive when trace elements are added back into the tank through either dosing or water changes.

Derasa Clams are filter feeders and will get most of their required nutrition through your tanks water column. If you would like to supplement the diet of your Derasa Clam, simply add small meaty foods to the tank like mysis and baby brine shrimp as well as micro-plankton.
