  • The Emperor Shrimp is a stunning and very colorful little shrimp. Emperor Shrimp have a mostly red body with strong white markings.

    Emperor Shrimp only reach a maximum size of around 1 inch and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 10 gallons in size. Emperor Shrimp are peaceful shrimp that will not harm any other inverts, coral or fish in your tank. This makes the Emperor Shrimp a great shrimp to add to reef tanks.

    Emperor Shrimp form a very interesting relationship with some species of sea cucumbers and nudibranchs. The Emperor Shrimp will get the protection of being with the larger animal, while proving the service of cleaning parasites off of the host. Emperor Shrimp should not be kept with larger aggressive fish that like to eat inverts like triggers and puffers.

    Emperor Shrimp are omnivores and will get most of their nutrition from scavenging around the tank for leftover foods and detritus. Emperor Shrimp will also feed off of parasites on their hosts skin. If you would like to supplement the diet of a Emperor Shrimp, simply add meaty foods like mysis and brine shrimp as well as high quality frozen foods to the tank.
