  • Description
  • The Astraea Snail is a very useful snail to have in your tank. Astraea Snails have a cone shaped shell which will normally become covered in coralline algae.

Astraea Snails reach a maximum size of just over 1 inch and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 10 gallons. Astraea Snails are peaceful snail and will not bother other fish, inverts or coral in your tank. This makes the Astraea Snail a great sail to have in your reef tank.

Astraea Snails will do best in tanks with lots of live rock that they can hide in during the day. Astraea Snails are mainly nocturnal snails and will be most active during the night time hours. Astraea Snails will get most of their food from eating algae off of your live rock and glass. Astraea Snails will also eat diatoms and cyanobacteria.

Astraea Snails are herbivores and require a diet rich in green foods. Like stated earlier, Astraea Snails get most of their nutrition through the algae found in your tank, but if you would like to supplement their diet you could use foods like nori or marine algae sheets or high quality flake and pellet foods. Astraea Snails really make a great addition to most tanks clean up crews.
