  • Description
  • The Nerite Snail is an amazing and very useful little snail. Nerite Snails have multicolor shells and are different in color based on where they are found.

Nerite Snails reach a maximum adult size of around 1 inch and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 10 gallons in size. Nerite Snails are peaceful snails and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes the Nerite Snail a great addition to reef tanks.

Nerite Snails will hide most of the day in your rock work and come out at night to look for food. Nerite Snails will spend most of their time eating various forms of algae including cyanobacteria, diatoms and film algae. They will also eat algae off of your live rock.

Nerite Snails are herbivores and require a diet that is rich in green foods. Since Nerite Snails get most of their nutrition from your tanks, you really do not need to feed them. If you would like to supplement their diet, you can use foods like nori or marine algae sheets and high quality flake foods.
