  • Description
  • Chocolate Chip Star are one of the most desirable of all the commonly found Starfish. Chocolate Chip Stars make better additions to FOWLR tanks than they do to reef tanks.

Chocolate Chip Starfish get their name from their mostly brown tannish body with dark black protrusions extending off their body. These protrusions resemble chocolate chips on top of a cookie.

Chocolate Chip Starfish can reach an adult size of around 12 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 75 gallons in size. Chocolate Chip Stars are very peaceful stars, and shouldn’t bother too many of their tank mates. Chocolate Chip Stars should be kept in larger FOWLR tanks with fish that aren’t too aggressive. Since Chocolate Chip Starfish are not fast movers, fish such as Triggers and Puffers will make a meal out of them given the chance.

Chocolate Chip Stars do not make good stars to add to a reef tank, since they will pretty much eat anything they find laying around. This can include some inverts, clams, as well as some coral. Chocolate Chip Stars are carnivores and prefer a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Most times Chocolate Chip Stars can do very small just cleaning up the tank eating leftover foods. If you need to supplement their diet, you can add meaty foods like mysis shrimp and small pieces of fresh seafood like chunks of clam and shrimp to the tank.
