  • Description
  • The Colored Chocolate Chip Star is closely related in appearance to the Chocolate Chip Starfish, but has smaller and darker protrusions from its body.

The body of the Colored Chocolate Chip Star is a light tannish brown with many dark brown to black protrusions all over its body. Those protrusions resemble chocolate chips on a cookie, hence its name. Colored Chocolate Chip Stars can reach sizes of up to 6 inches and should be kept in tanks that are at least 75 gallons in size.

Colored Chocolate Chip Stars are best kept in FOWLR tanks. Tankmates should be rather peaceful, since the Colored Chocolate Chip Star is not fast and could end up a meal for a Trigger or Puffer. Colored Chocolate Chip Stars are peaceful and shouldn’t bother other inverts or fish in the tank. Colored Chocolate Chip Starfish are not considered reef safe, since they tend to eat pretty much anything they can find, including clams and some coral.

Colored Chocolate Chip Stars are scavengers and will eat most left over foods found around the tank. If you don’t think there is enough laying around the tank to sustain your Colored Chocolate Chip Star, you can add meaty foods to the tank like mysis shrimp or chunks of fresh seafood like clams or shimp. Colored Chocolate Chip Stars are carnivores and require meaty foods.
